FIVE Books That Will Bring You Closer to the Temple During COVID-19

This morning I read in a recent Church News article, "The power of the temple does not reside in the building, but in the power of our covenants." That quote plus President Nelson's encouragement to "Study and pray to learn more about the power and knowledge with which you have been endowed" are reasons for us to continue to have the temple in our minds constantly.

We've compiled a list of 5 amazing books that will bring you closer to the temple in your home.

#1 - The Covenant Path by Valiant Jones

This book is written in a way that I could relate to and understand the concepts and principles of the temple. While the book goes deep into various teachings, it does so in a way that is easy to comprehend and is enjoyable to read.

Many people find the temple and the ordinances therein to be difficult to relate to. By showing these same principles and teachings through the writings of the Book of Mormon, it brings a different light and helps make the teachings of the temple more easily understood and helps them to be internalized.

#2 - Endowed with Power by Robert C. Line

Prepare not only to go to the temple but to be in it as well. TEMPLES ARE FILLED with ancient symbols that point directly to the Atonement. These symbols are all around— in scriptures, cultural motifs, and architectural details.

C. Robert Line, a doctor in sociology of religion, o ers help to those wanting to make sense of certain aspects of the temple and the endowment. By showing how these symbols all point back to Christ’s Atonement, he aims to enrich and enliven the worship experience that Church members can and should expect when they attend the House of the Lord.

#3 - Finding Temple Symbols by Cami Evans

I love to see the . . . Angel Moroni! Join Lucy as she finds features on and around the temple—like the gate, fountains, spires, and more—that remind her of important gospel principles. This reverent seek-and-find book introduces children to the idea of symbols and prepares them to enter the temple some day.

#4 - Sacred Symbols by Alonzo Gaskill

In order to truly understand Deity and how we can return to Him, we must first understand the meaning behind the sacred symbols found in religious ordinances, rituals, covenants, clothing, gestures, and words. In this book, author, Alonzo Gaskill, presents a myriad of ancient and modern Jewish, Christian, and Islamic practices which are illustrative of symbols Latter-day Saints would do well to understand.

#5 - Temple Square by Scott Jarvie

Explore historic temple square in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. These exquisite photographs showcase buildings in and around Temple Square, displaying intricate pioneer craftsmanship and modern architectural marvels.
