The recent protests, riots, and looting, has caused President Russel M. Nelson to post on social media his thoughts about these current events which he calls "saddening." President Nelson has been a big proponent in bringing racial issues forward and working with many different groups, including the NAACP, in fixing the issues that we have as a culture and society.
On June 1st, President Nelson wrote:
We join with many throughout this nation and around the world who are deeply saddened at recent evidences of racism and a blatant disregard for human life. We abhor the reality that some would deny others respect and the most basic of freedoms because of the color of his or her skin.
We are also saddened when these assaults on human dignity lead to escalating violence and unrest.
The Creator of us all calls on each of us to abandon attitudes of prejudice against any group of God’s children. Any of us who has prejudice toward another race needs to repent!
During the Savior’s earthly mission, He constantly ministered to those who were excluded, marginalized, judged, overlooked, abused, and discounted. As His followers, can we do anything less? The answer is no! We believe in freedom, kindness, and fairness for all of God’s children!
Let us be clear. We are brothers and sisters, each of us the child of a loving Father in Heaven. His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, invites all to come unto Him—“black and white, bond and free, male and female,” (2 Nephi 26:33). It behooves each of us to do whatever we can in our spheres of influence to preserve the dignity and respect every son and daughter of God deserves.
Any nation can only be as great as its people. That requires citizens to cultivate a moral compass that helps them distinguish between right and wrong.
Illegal acts such as looting, defacing, or destroying public or private property cannot be tolerated. Never has one wrong been corrected by a second wrong. Evil has never been resolved by more evil.
We need to foster our faith in the Fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man.
We need to foster a fundamental respect for the human dignity of every human soul, regardless of their color, creed, or cause.
And we need to work tirelessly to build bridges of understanding rather than creating walls of segregation.
I plead with us to work together for peace, for mutual respect, and for an outpouring of love for all of God’s children.

I can only say if we’ve ever needed help it’s now. Our world has had a lot of evil during its existence. While yes this is bad we forget to look at how far we have come. There are so many bad things that are coming to our attention and satan is playing everywhere from death to riots to political strategies. It’s makes us angry to have this in our midst but I remember once when the Bishop in my ward gave me some council about a certain event in my life where I was defending the church with a radio anchor. He was lying on air and I called in and let him have it over the air. I was proud of it. Well guess what the Sunday School lesson was on. I brought it up during the lesson and later the Bishop pulled me aside and explained how my anger would keep the spirit from being able to guide my thoughts and actions and how this could allow the adversary to influence my thoughts. I was a bit disappointed I guess for him chastising me for defending the church. Later on I realized how correct he was. Who knows what kind of positive influence or message the lord may use us for to help others. We must remember the savior and as the Prophet has said repent and allow the Holy Ghost to guide our thoughts and actions. My son and I were talking about the things going on. He was concerned because he was only one person and one person can’t change this. I used this as an opportunity to show how powerful our Savior is and I explained that Joseph Smith wasn’t even a man at the time of just 14 years old. Now the church that Jesus Christ called him to restore has grown to over 14 million members. I also told him that Jesus was considered a man on earth and through his sacrifice of his life mankind and the hope of mankind would change forever. In fact The United States of America would be founded in Christianity. We must have faith that the Lord will lead us to peace and we shouldn’t be surprised at how young or old or even how bad the person was. From Saul to Paul. We need to be in tune with the spirit. We let go and let God show himself. My prayer is that our Nation will heal and from this series of events we will forgive one another and become the Great Nation that the Lord would have us be. God Bless you all.

I look to President Nelson for guidance in these troubling times. He is given guidance directly from our Heavenly Father. We will be safe and comforted in all things if we listen to him.

President Nelson, has said exactly how I feel in my heart. If only we could hear these words from other leaders maybe it would help to make a big change in how others feel so angery. If we just open our hearts to the Lord and be Kind and love one another, disregarding race. Love one another!!!

Let’s focus on another section, eh?
“We abhor the reality that some would deny others respect and the most basic of freedoms because of the color of his or her skin….The Creator of us all calls on each of us to abandon attitudes of prejudice against any group of God’s children. Any of us who has prejudice toward another race needs to repent!”
There’s your call to repentance! It requires us to not murder our brothers and sister who look different from us. It requires we humble ourselves and change ourselves so that we can tackle and change the evil in our world that allows for such blatant systemic racism and brutality.
